Epic Reviews & Overview

What is Epic?

While the EpicCare EMR/ EHR system has all the features one would expect from a market leader in its space, what sets it apart is its self-learning capability.  The solution can learn the preferences of individual clinicians as they work and will become smarter over time.  It detects errors and inconsistencies, then suggests corrections where required. Making notes is easy and individual observations can be converted to notes. Another important feature of the solution is its ability to offer telemedicine support, thereby opening up methods of care.

Key Features

When EpicCare was first conceived, the designers chose to create a single database and a single application that would be used worldwide. Although there are a number of modules that are specific to different countries, the underlying solution is common. As a result, coders do not have to work separately to make the solution conform to the requirements of different countries. A single update is distributed across all users and all systems can be updated simultaneously.

Working with a single database ensures that duplicate patient records are eliminated. The system is interoperable with other EMR/EHRs and is even able to detect duplicate patient records across different operating systems using some advanced algorithms.

EpicCare provides hospitals with a standard way of sharing select patient information with independent physicians and other hospitals. The emphasis is on sharing data that is already available to save time and money from having to duplicate diagnosis and testing. Referral workflows are particularly well designed in EpicCare and they do not cost anything extra.

EpicCare comes with a well-designed inpatient system that goes across different departments and roles and gives all clinicians access to the latest information about any patient they are working with. Decision making support is provided as well to ensure that health care is updated and state of the art.

Patients are given a detailed summary of their “after visit actions”. This gives them a clear list of the medications they have been prescribed and instructions and educational material regarding their illness. The net outcome is a better informed patient that takes better care of themselves.

Pros & Cons Preview
  • The features that improve the ability to perform research in an educational hospital are present in EPIC.
  • To make sure that the right fees are passed to the research study/insurance, there are methods to generate lists of patients, monitor billing, and get tailored alerts.
  • Running reports after determining and monitoring participation and advancement of research is simple.
  • There are no cons as such but a suggestion that EPIC should develop new ways that clinicians can come out with that would help them showcase their own unique skills based on their specialty.
  • It may look difficult in the beginning.
  • But, this way there will be an improvement in clinical efficiency.
