Survey Results: Vendors' Forecasts for 2010

How Is 2010 Shaping Up for Your Business? Survey Results

In the May 2010 issue the Wheelhouse Vendor Newsletter, we asked readers about their general sales and marketing forecasts for 2010. Here are the results of that survey.

Question 1:

Despite forecasts by the vast majority of advertising and media companies that say Internet marketing will continue to gain momentum as well as allocations for overall marketing budgets, vendors responding to this survey say their companies are still not spending the majority of their budgets online. Here is how they responded to this question:

For 2010, what percent of your organization’s marketing budget will be dedicated to the Internet vs. traditional marketing, such as radio, TV, and print advertising?

  • 36% of respondents will spend 0%-19% of their marketing budgets on Internet marketing.
  • 32% plan to spend 20%-39% on Internet marketing.
  • 28% plan to spend 40%-59% on Internet marketing.
  • 4% plan to spend 60%-79% on Internet marketing.
  • 0% plans to spend 80%-100% on Internet marketing.

Question 2:

As we enter the third quarter of 2010, the vast majority of vendors surveyed forecast that 2010 will be on par with 2009 when it comes to sales. The good news is – they don’t think it will be worse!

  • Compared to 2009, what do you forecast sales will be like in 2010?
  • 7% said better in 2010 than 2009.
  • 90% said about the same in 2010 as 2009.
  • 3% said worse in 2010 than 2009.

Question 3:

Similarly, the vast majority of vendors surveyed see sales cycle times being about the same in 2010 as 2009.

Compared to 2009, do you see your sales cycle times in 2010:

  • 2% said they see sales cycle times getting shorter.
  • 92% said they see them staying the same.
  • 6% said they’ll get longer.
